If being able to take distance and adapt ...
is also being able to change your view point on the same situation
and make slightly differently without changing radically ?
Your FOCUS determines your REALITY

When starting coaching, some of my clients feel stuck in certain situations. They want to unlock the situation and move on it.
One of the first value-adding steps of the coaching is to brainstorm on the situation to set out, the context and find different ways of looking at it. Sharing and debriefing on the situation with the coach helps you to see things with fresh eyes and a new perspective. This includes blind spots. This step can be an eye-opener and motivate you to move to unlock the situation.
Being stuck, in a rut, and unable to move
As a scientist I like to rely on the natural laws of physics and biology, provide metaphors and create understanding. You can visualize movement and forces when realizing that you are stuck
-> Maybe you lack the motivation and driving force. It is not you who really wants to change and make a move but an external pressure or a voice inside you telling you to do so
-> Maybe you are highly motivated with a powerful driving to move you forward. Yet at the same time, you unconsciously have your foot on the brake, holding you back and acting as an opposing force. Coaching can help you assess your motivation as well the role of your foot on the brake.
Some of my clients are already aware of behavioural patterns and negative thoughts (or "inner voice") they want to change or remove, and are motivated to do so.
At the same time, it is possible that, unconciously, they are afraid that if they change they will lose a part of who they are.
Changing is not about losing part of who you are becoming radically different.
Changing is about adapting in 10-20% of cases.
Part of the objective of coaching is to:
⫸ be aware of the situations where you can benefit adapting your behavior
⫸ understand how make small changes to adapt your behavior so that you can work towards your professional goals and general well-being.
